Pedagogical Declaration

I will listen with an open mind and an open heart.
I will recognize that my gaze is cast through intersecting lenses -
this is how I see, how I feel, how I find my way.
It is dark. I cannot see.
May I look through your lens? Will you help me?
I will be vulnerable.
I will speak up when I am unsure.
I will not shrink.
I belong in this space.
I have ideas to contribute, wonderings that need to be heard. I add value.
I will not be dismissed.
I will shine brightly and be a mirror – reflecting your light too.
I will be angry. It’s okay to be angry.
The world is unjust. Our schools are unjust.
I will be a proponent of equity - yes, equity.
No. It is not the same as equality.
I will learn about the past so that I might make better choices in the future.
I will believe in possibility.
I will create spaces of safety and courage for learners.
I will create space for myself.
I will be a critical friend and seek critical friends.
I will find a community.
My path will not be straight
